created on: 09/16/08 The Peddie School's (NJ) David Kenney has enough athleticism as a quarterback to have drawn in a few scholarship offers as an athlete. But his offer list has been at a standstill and the chiseled 6-foot-1, 205 pounds decided to put his defensive-back skills to a test in front of a few NFL players and spectators at the First Annual Brian Leonard Football Camp. HOW DID HE DO?

After putting in rigorous hours of work this past week at his two jobs of which he manages to squeeze time in to do his daily work-outs, the Peddie Schools (Mercer County, NJ) senior athlete David Kenney found time to make his way to the College of New Jersey to take part in the First Annual Brian Leonard Football Camp .

"I work all week ... I have two jobs ... I have to help my mom the best way I can," said Kenney. "I really wanted to get to this camp and show what I can do."

The camp featured attendees ranging from ages 10-17 and hailing from across the state and even Maryland all eager to get the chance to work-out with former Rutgers star and current St. Louis Ram back Brian Leonard. But for the 6-foot-1, 205 pounder, he wasn’t really interested in impressing the superb football coaches working the camp from the likes of Kean University, Albright College, and William Paterson - he was more eager to see where his talent level stood as a defensive-back from the likes of Leonard, former Rutgers and Jets defensive-back Manny Collins and Eliterecruits.com

"I had a blast out there ... I learned a lot and I feel that I got better as a player. I was great to see all those coaches there and the kids having fun ... but I wanted to go an workout with the NFL players and see where I stood as a player," said Kenney. "I have offers from UConn and Nebraska as an athlete - so I wanted to see where I stood as far as being a top defensive-back."

"I know understand what I need to work on ... being more relaxed and on my technique ... I learned a lot of things from Manny," said Kenney.

Despite being raw to playing the position, Kenney definitely has the athleticism, confidence and desire to be one of the best secondary players across the state and beyond with a few more workouts under his belt.

"He has all the tools to be a good one ...has very good feet, hip-movement and the ability to close on the ball ... as he learns the position he is only going to get better and that is crazy," said Collins who may be signed by the Baltimore Ravens as early as this upcoming week. "He’s raw ... learns fast ... he is big and agile ... he definitely has it (the skills to play at the top level of competition)!"

NOTE: KENNEY COMMITTED TO UCONN TWO-DAYS FOLLOWING THIS STORY ... STAY TUNED-IN FOR STORIES ON OTHER RECRUITS WHO ATTENDED THE LEONARD CAMP!
