Blaze Caponegro

This past weekend Wall Township (Monmouth County, NJ) proved that there is indeed life after Tim Wright (now a freshman receiver at Rutgers). An all-around team effort was the key to Wall's 35-34 victory over Long Branch, but the states top fullback was the deciding factor displaying his skills as a tailback.
Last fall Wall Township High School’s Blaze Caponegro carried the ball 126 times for 900 yards and 11 scores as a junior. This past weekend the 6-foot-1, 210 pound fullback/linebacker nearly matched those totals in one game.
Long Branch faced Wall Township last Friday on a mission to stop the back to ran over and away for the Green Wave defense in 2007.
This year was no different as Caponegro played stellar on both sides of the ball as a fullback/running-back and as a linebacker on defense.
"It felt great to get the win over such a good team ... a total team effort," said Caponegro, one of four captains.
"It was a awesome game ... that was the best and craziest game that I’ve ever played. Every time I got the ball I tried to score ... our offensive-lien did a great job ... they were pumped-up and told me to follow them and that is what I did. Our fullbacks and receivers did a great job blocking.
Caponegro utilized his 4.5 speed in the forty to carry the ball 32 times for 246 yards and scores four touchdowns (a 30, 4, 58, 2) including one which would be the deciding factor for the Crimson Knights 35-34 victory over Long Branch.
"Our coaches feel confident with the ball in my hands and I feel the same way," said Caponegro, who now plays tailback full-time for the Crimson Knights after split time with current Rutgers receiver Tim Wright last fall.
Caponegro has an offer from Al Golden and the Temple Owls thus far - but the list is sure to grow.
"I haven’t really heard from any other schools except for Villanova ... I am just waiting to see what happens," he added.
